Our teachers do more than just educate students, help them get good grades, and become smarter. They take on many roles inside and outside of the classroom and impart values and advice that their students can carry for the rest of their lives.
Truly, our teachers are the embodiment of dedication and passion to their vocation. Even during the toughest of times (as seen during the covid-19 pandemic), their unwavering commitment to the education of their students remains unparalleled.
What better way to celebrate victories, renew friendships and ties, and show our appreciation than by honoring them with a special program.
This is exactly what happened at the Gabay Guro Grand Gathering last October 15, 2022! With the theme “The Filipino Teacher: Our Pride, Our Purpose, Our Passion,” the one-day event was live streamed on the Gabay Guro Facebook and YouTube pages.
Together with celebrity hosts Ms. Pops Fernandez, Jolina Magdangal, Sam Concepcion, and Dominic Roque, teachers from all over the country were treated to world-class performances from popular and talented guests.
To raise the excitement even more, teachers also had a chance to win special prizes during the event’s raffle when they registered via the Gabay Guro Super App.
Some prizes that were up for grabs included a brand-new Chery Tiggo Pro, P500,000 cash, Sony PS4 Pro, laptops and LTE or prepaid WiFi units, a 43” Devant TV, smartphones, smartwatches, printers, a one-year supply of 555 Tuna and Sardines, mWellness Kits, and more.

How Gabay Guro Continues to Enrich Filipino Teachers’ Lives
Gabay Guro, an advocacy of the PLDT-Smart Foundation and the PLDT Managers Club Inc., aims to provide programs designed to hone and improve the welfare of the teachers no matter where they are in the Philippines.
This advocacy strives to help build the nation one teacher at a time, anchored on eight pillars that address the needs and aspirations of teachers and learners in various areas of their lives.
In particular, as the pandemic changed the landscape of learning for both Filipino educators and students, Gabay Guro provided support for these groups. The program helped public schools transition from traditional learning to online and/or hybrid set-ups, and it will continue to do so as flexible and full face-to-face classes have already resumed.
Most importantly, the Gabay Guro program is connected to Goal #4 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG), highlighting the need to ensure quality education for all.
As Metro Pacific Investments Corporation Executive Director, Chief Finance Officer, Chief Sustainability Officer, and Chief Risk Officer Ms. Chaye Cabal-Revilla highlighted during the program, Gabay Guro is also focusing on other UN SDGs to protect Mother Earth and heed the call for climate action.
This is crucial given the Philippines’ vulnerability to the effects of climate change, particularly in the form of stronger typhoons, flooding in areas, and droughts and increased temperatures in certain areas.
